MARJAN KIOSK

MARJAN FOREST PARK is one of Split’s most important public spaces, not only because of its immense natural, historical and cultural significance but also because of its capacity to create collective memory and to constitute identity and lifestyle of the local community.
On the other hand, however, Marjan Forest Park, a cultural landscape with 15 cultural monuments and 2 cultural-historical complexes, has no organized system of promotion of its multidimensional value towards its citizens or the visitors of Split. This deficient approach has led to a severe devastation by illegal construction and neglect of its ecological and cultural importance in the last few decades.

This is the reason why one of the oldest Croatian NGOs, 112-year-old Marjan Association, plans a sustainable entrepreneurship in the form of a small art & design kiosk, originally built in 1958 for the same promotional purpose on a belvedere called “Prva vidilica”, which is a popular spot connecting the ancient city center with the Marjan Hill. The planned activities will be aimed to promote Marjan’s sustainable values through different art and design forms, with a special emphasis placed on collaborative community partnerships.

Marjan Kiosk will soon become a place providing a vivid and respectable cultural offer, an art & design spot placing emphasis on inclusive strategies, a venue hosting different workshops and offering interesting guided tours, concerts, performances, screenings, exhibitions and public discussions.

All sale profits would be invested in further cultural production, the protection and preservation of Marjan Forest Park and the sustainable operation of the Marjan Association.
